Let’s talk handmade bar soap!

Handmade bar soap is the best and it’s so easy to make! I chose to make bar soap this week because I wanted to show you that you can make an all natural alternative to store bought soap. Have you ever read the back of a soap label and had no clue what any of the ingredients meant? Yeah, me too! Making your own soap lets you control what’s in it!

I found two awesome DIY bar soap recipes from two different bloggers online. I used their recipes as a template for the recipes I created. Stephanie with Hello Glow created an aloe vera and chia seed recipe for a handmade soap bar. Check out her recipe here. I made some alterations to her recipe as my grocery store did not sell aloe vera juice so I used 100% aloe vera gel and added a few essential oils in my recipe. It turned out so good!

Julia with BLDG 25 created a handmade oatmeal bar soap and I absolutely loved her recipe. Check it out here! I had to alter some of the ingredients but it still turned out totally awesome! Julia used almond oil and honey in her recipe but I used walnut oil (my store did not sell almond oil) and coconut oil. OMG, my recipe turned out AMAZING. I actually think the combination I used worked so well. Check out my video below for the instructions on how to make these awesome soaps!

Before I talk about the ingredients in my video, I wanted to let you know that I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for Bold & Free to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

This soap is for those of us who have sensitive skin. There are so many healing properties in this soap. The aloe vera and eucalyptus oil have properties that heal skin ailments such as burns and acne. You’ll definitely want to try this out!

Ingredients

soap-base-soap-mold

You’ll want to get 1/2 pound soap base and a soap mold. This can be purchased at your local craft store or online. I bought mine at Michael’s.

essential-oils

2-3 drops of Eucalyptus essential oil and 5 drops of Wild Orange essential oil.

aloe-vera-gel

2 tablespoons of 100% aloe vera gel or 1 tablespoon of aloe vera juice.

Olive-oil

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil.

chia-seeds

1/4 cup of whole chia seeds.

Directions

Melt the glycerin soap base for 1 minute in a small container. I used an old tupperware bowl but you can use any microwave safe container. Mix all ingredients into the soap base and pour into the soap mold. Let the soap harden in the soap mold. It will take 3-4 hours to harden at room temperature or you can put it in the refrigerator and it will harden in 1-2 hours. Once hardened, you can flip the mold over and pop out your soap. Then, you’ll be set to use your soap right away!
